Recent reports indicate that Taraba state maybe set for another orgy of violence, in view of the purported landing of a helicopter loaded with arms and ammunitions in Jibu village in Wukari LGA of the state on Saturday night.
According to The Punch, a Senior Assistant to the Taraba State Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Bala Dan-Abu alleges that an attack maybe in the offing, that this was the same way that was adopted in previous attack, “this system of arms delivery was used prior to the tragic attacks in Agatu communities in Benue State and when it was reported, nothing was done to trace and arrest the owners of the helicopter.”
Another indigene of the state, representing Wukari I Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Josiah Aji in a phone interview with the Punch said he had been informed of the incident.
Though the Wukari Local Government Chairman, Daniel Adi said he was still tracking information concerning the alleged dropping of arms in Jibu village by a helicopter. A resident that was contacted via phone claimed that an helicopter landed in the village in the night. He further said that he was not aware of the motive of the helicopter.
However, another resident said he is not aware, that if anything like that happened maybe he must have been asleep.
The Police have dismissed the insinuation. ASP David Misal told the Punch that it was a rumour, that people should stop spreading what he called “fake information” on social media. He however said that the matter is been investigated and that they would get back to them.
Tension seems to be rife among stakeholders in view of the related killings (farmers/herders) that have taken place in Sarduana Local Government Area of the State and neighbouring state of Benue.
