Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson
The Governor of Bayelsa state, Mr. Henry Seriake Dickson has ordered for the procurement of additional 17 gunboats to fight militancy and other maritime crimes in the state.
This was revealed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Mr. Sparrow Jack while briefing newsmen on the security scorecard of Governor Dickson for the past six years.
He said on the arrival of the new war boats, oil pipeline vandals, sea pirates and kidnappers would no longer have a hiding place as the state would now be parading over 32 gunboats at high sea and the backwaters.
Sparrow Jack said the security apparatus in the state had been strengthened with the recent purchase of extra 45 patrol vehicles for the state owned security outfit, Operation Doo Akpor, adding that a quick response approach of not later five minutes to distress calls had been adopted.
The Security Adviser also revealed that the state government had perfected plans to procure drones for security surveillance to aid the fight against armed robbery and cult activities in Yenagoa, the state capital due to its congested nature.
He said efforts were also on to install close circuit cameras at strategic positions to check criminal activities in the metropolis.
The S.A recounted that the dearth sentence bill for cultists which was past into law by the Dickson administration has reduced cult activities to its barest minimum.
While assuring Bayelsans of maximum security of lives and property, the S.A called on the people especially the youths to be law abiding and always finish security agencies with useful information to help combat crime for a safer Bayelsa.
