STUDENTS CRY OUT OVER INCESSANT ROBBERY ATTACKS

Some residents around Iwofe Area of Rumuolumeni Community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State have raised alarm over what they termed reoccurring robbery attacks by armed men.

The residents who are mainly drawn from students living directly opposite Ignatius Ajuru University of Education which is close to a Police divisional headquarters in the area were reacting to the most recent attack that took place last Sunday night which have left some persons hospitalized.

Our correspondent was at the area and reported that he sighted some residents who were inflicted with machete wounds all over their body and some apartment’s windows and doors broken and some women raped by the suspected armed robbers.

Some of the students including those that were injured from the attack spoke to our correspondent. They alleged that they were being attacked on weekly basis and raped without any protection from the security operatives. Continue reading

ONE DIES FROM FALLING CONTAINER IN RIVERS STATE

It is a recurring show of embarrassment as cars and trucks continue to fall into the various gullies along Obigbo, Akpajo Junction, Onne/Eleme Petrochemical roads in Port Harcourt. According to eyewitness report, one life was lost when a container fell on top of a Volkswagen car yesterday.

The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas workers (NUPENG) President, Achese Igwe has called on the relevant authorities to come to the aid of those plying the road. He made the statement to newsmen when he visited the area. According to him, the bad spots on these roads have become death traps and it poses danger to tankers, trailers and members of the public that make use of the roads daily. Continue reading
