Some suspected Fulani herdsmen were yesterday evening caught with guns in the suburb town of Ekiadolor close to Benin City. The culprits have been handed over to the Police in Ekiadolor.

They said that their dastard acts has led to the death of so many in the surrounding communities. They also alluded the increasing rate of killings and kidnapping in the area to the activities of herdsmen.

Woman’s ear slashed by suspected herdsmen in Ofunwengbe village

Similarly, an Urhobo woman farming in ofunwengbe community, in ovia south west LG of Edo State was attacked this morning by 7.30am in her farm alongside her daughter by the most notorious killers AKA the Fulani herdsmen

The woman who is also known as mama touuai and who has been complaining to her people before today of the destruction being done at her farm by the cattle on daily basis almost lost her life when she confronted the herdsmen today.

According to the woman, the Fulani herdsmen entered her farm and met her working before she knew what was happening, the herdsmen were trying to rape her by pointing gun at her but for her determination and boldness, she was able to drag the gun from him.

During the process of dragging the gun, another used her careless she was using to work, to machete her and her child

The child has since be taken to the specialist hospital in Benin.

The situation is indeed baffling to see herdsmen carry around unlicensed fire arms.

Villagers are complaining that they cannot protect themselves in view of the recent attacks from herdsmen who are in the habit of setting their farms on fire and eating their crops. There is so much wailing in these communities. This will indeed affect the agricultural productivity and lead to food shortages and crisis.

Only recently the Inspector general of Police, Ibrahim Idris has directed that all vigilantes be disarmed. Who will disarm the herdsmen?
