2018, THE YEAR OF VOTE FOR ME

Published by:

As politicians begin to jostle for your vote again this New Year with several grandiose promises, such as I would provide free education, water, give you electricity, and increase your salaries and allowances, ask them to give account of what they have done with the mandate you gave to them.

The season of open store rooms is here again, where politicians are ready to lavish money on the electorates in return for their political support. This period of electioneering would experience uncanny humility and generosity from politicians. Now you would begin to see politicians in market places roasting corn and drinking akamu with children in their classes. They would even carry hoe to farm with farmers. The gimmick of politicians is never ending.

Unfortunately, after voting for them, they would disappear, never to return to fulfill their promises, only to be seen driving with a retinue of escorts in convoy. Even if they splash water on you, they would never come down to apologize. As for traffic, politicians are the worst offenders; they never obey traffic rules, choking innocent road users with their long convoys and sirens. These are the same persons that came to you begging to represent you.

MOURINHO HAS GONE FROM THE ‘SPECIAL ONE’ TO THE ‘BORING ONE’

Published by:

Jose Mourinho. Photo credit: metro.co.uk

Ever since Manchester United’s 1-2 home loss some weeks ago to Manchester City,  there seems to have been a sense of resignation amongst the Red Devils camp about their ability to lift the English premier League title this season.
Before that meeting, United were 8 points behind table toppers City and there was some measurable hope from United that if they were able to stop Pep Guardiola’s troops from winning, then the Premier League title race would remain open and could still be won. But City were in no mood to give up their long winning run. They ran away as convincing winners at United’s Old Trafford.
Since then Man City have continued winning and now are many points ahead of United.  Man United seem to have let their heads drop and they haven’t been able to put on a winning run since.  In their last four games, the club have lost one, in the League Cup to lower League side Bristol, and have drawn 3 including their last two home games to Burnley (2-2) and Southampton (0-0).
In truth, Man United have played very boring football recently. Perhaps, it’s keeping in line with the conservative style of manager Jose Mourinho who has never been known to giving his teams the creative freedom to play expansive and attacking football for a long stretch of games.

President Buhari’s New Year speech

Published by:

Nigeria’s President Buhari

I join my fellow citizens this morning to welcome and celebrate the New Year 2018. This year promises to be pivotal in our quest for CHANGE.

Unfortunately, I am saddened to acknowledge that for many this Christmas and New Year holidays have been anything but merry and happy. Instead of showing love, companionship and charity, some of our compatriots chose this period to inflict severe hardship on us all by creating unnecessary fuel scarcity across the country.

The consequence was that not many could travel and the few who did had to pay exorbitant transport fares. This is unacceptable given that NNPC had taken measures to ensure availability at all depots. I am determined to get to the root of this collective blackmail of all Nigerians and ensure that whichever groups are behind this manipulated hardship will be prevented from doing so again.

Such unpatriotism will not divert the Administration from the course we have set ourselves. Our government’s watch word and policy thrust is CHANGE. We must change our way of doing things or we will stagnate and be left behind in the race to lift our people out of poverty and into prosperity.

My address to fellow Nigerians this morning is devoted mainly to informing you about the intense efforts this Administration is putting to address our country’s huge infrastructural deficit. Continue reading

You have to get use to MAN City big spending, Wenger tells Mourinho

Published by:

Arsene Wenger

Arsène Wenger has told José Mourinho that he has spent the duration of his 21 years at Arsenal as a poor relation of the Premier League’s financial elite. Mourinho said on Boxing Day that his lavish spend on players since he took charge at Manchester United in the summer of last year – which stands at £261m – was not enough to level the playing field with Manchester City .
