INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION, GOVERNOR WIKE SHEDS LIGHT ON WHY NIGERIA IS NOT PROGRESSING

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that

these are extraordinary times for the country, which is made worse by the failure to successfully redefine and restructure the country towards a progressive path since independence.

As part of the 57th Independence Celebration, Governor Wike also paid the fines for 19 convicts to regain their freedom, commuted 32 death sentences to life imprisonment, approved unconditional release of 32 convicts from prison and granted free pardon to three convicts.

In an independence day address at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt, Governor Wike said Nigerians must unite behind the national flag, setting aside the narrative of division, violence and hate and replace them with the narrative of peace and unity . Continue reading

RIVERS STATE GOVERNMENT HANDS OVER THREE NEWLY RECONSTRUCTED SCHOOLS TO BENEFITTING COMMUNITIES

Rivers State Government has commissioned and handed over reconstructed basic schools in Ahoada West , Port Harcourt and Asari-Toru Local Government Areas to their respective benefiting communities.

Performing the commissioning and handing over ceremonies on behalf of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on Friday, Executive Chairman of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board, Venerable Fyneface Akah said that the contracts were delivered on schedule and in line with specifications.

The three basic schools commissioned and handed over are: Government Girls Secondary School, Ahoada West Local Government Area , Community Secondary School Abuloma, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area and State School ILeLema in Asari-Toru Local Government Area.

The representative of the Rivers State Governor said that the reconstruction and renovation of 175 basic schools flagged off by Governor Wike have reached 90 percent completion stage across the state. Continue reading

Scale of private treatment at NHS hospitals revealed

An investigation by The Independent has exposed the extent of creeping NHS privatisation, leaving experts warning that state patients risk being sidelined as beds are diverted to private users.   Data obtained under Freedom of Information law shows income from private patients at one of London’s best-known cancer-specialist hospitals doubled in six years as the law was changed to allow NHS trusts to do more paid work.
