In spite of the crisis rocking the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in some Local Government Area of Rivers State, mobilization continues at the grassroot in a bid to strengthen the party ahead of 2019 general elections.
Our correspondent reports that some groups under the platform of the APC in the state came together to mark the birthday celebration of their leader, former Governor Rotimi AMECHI.
Hundreds of APC supporters in Omuma Local Government Area including okada riders took over the streets of the communities in solidarity with the leader of the APC in the state, Minister of Transport, Rotimi AMECHI, as he marks his birthday.
Former Governor AMECHI in his goodwill message called for Peace and Unity among members of APC which he said was only the way forward for the actualisation of the desires of the party.
Some of the APC supporters in Omuma who spoke to our correspondent describe as meritorious the service to Omuma and Rivers State and Nigeria during AMECHI’S eight years in office.
The Omuma APC supporters also dismissed reports that there was crisis in the leadership of the party, stressing that the leader of the APC in the South South and Rivers State remain Rotimi AMECHI and encourage all to work in unity to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
They also criticized the present administration of the state for not citing any project in their area in the past two years. They expressed worries over an alleged declassification of their traditional stool which they claimed has been in existence from time immemorial.
“We have not seen anything dividend in this current administration of governor NyesomWike, instead what we received was declassification of our traditional stool which has never been rotational, but by hereditary”.
On his part, one of the Omuma APC stalwart who led the procession, Darlington Nwauju complained that the people were yet to see any dividend of democracy in the current administration led by Governor Nyesom EZENWO WIKE which is the reason why they decided to celebrate good governance under the immediate past administration of Rotimi AMECHI as he marks his birthday.
Nwauju said they decided to celebrate with Rotimi AMECHI because his administration as governor of the state made Omuma people to enjoy free medical care, scholarships abroad, employment and many other infrastructural projects.
