Since knocking down Klitschko in the eleventh round in front of 90,000 spectators, Joshua has become the toast of British boxing.
In 2012, dailymail ran an injurious headline about Anthony Joshua, alleging that “Watford born son of Nigerian parents was arrested for possessing cannabis and intent to supply the drug.”
However, after becoming World Boxing Heavyweight Champion in 2017, no mention was made of his parental heritage. This was the headlines from the same dailymail, that “JOSHUA WINS! British boxer picks himself off the canvass to knock down and stop Klitschko in round 11 after brutal see-sawing fight watched by 90,000 and celebrities including Schwarzenegger.”
Could this be regarded as double standard? In one sweep the nationality of his parents were used to tag Joshua in connection with drugs, but in another celebrating his victory, he was recognized as a British boxer without a parental heritage.
