Poverty and low income ‘making children sick’, doctors warn

Poverty and low income is “making children sick”, paediatricians have warned, prompting urgent calls for the next government to tackle health inequalities or risk storing up health problems for future generations. A report published today by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) reveals more than two-thirds of paediatricians believe poverty and low income contribute “very much” to the ill health of children they work with.

BREAKING NEWS: THE NIGERIAN HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PASSES 2017 BUDGET OF N7.44 TRILLION

Finally, the House of Representatives has passed the 2017 Budget, six months after it was presented by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The 2017 Budget of N7.441tn was adopted and passed by the House on Thursday. The Budget was slightly higher than what was earlier presented. The Executive had initially submitted a Budget of N7.298tn to the National Assembly in December 2016.

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Hon. Igbuya was impeached on Thursday after about 22 out of the 29 members  of the House signed his impeachment notice.

A new Speaker has been elected, he is Sheriff Oborevwori representing Okpe constituency.

MEDICAL DOCTORS IN RIVERS STATE DECRY THE HIGH RATE OF ABDUCTION OF THEIR MEMBERS

Medical doctors protest the incessant abduction of their members.

Medical Doctors in Port Harcourt on Wednesday took to the street to protest the high incidence of kidnapping of their members by hoodlums in Rivers State. According to the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) State Chairman in Rivers State, Dr. Furo Green, “the rate of kidnapping of medical doctors suggests that they may have been the main target of this nefarious activity in Rivers State. About 21 of our members have been victims of kidnapping.” Dr. Furo Green said that in the last two weeks four of their members have been kidnapped and surprisingly not one of these kidnappers is yet to be arrested.
